Derthona is Timorasso

Vine: Timorasso 100% from ancient select vines of the municipality of Vho
Exposure and altitude: south-east, 250-300m above sea level
Soil characteristics: calcareous-clay
Cultivation system: Guyot (4,000 plants per hectare)
Vine age: up to 40 years old
Yield per hectare: 5,000 kg/hectare
Harvest: late September/early October, harvested by hand into small wooden baskets
Vinification: soft pressing, racking off and fermentation at controlled temperature with refinement on the fine lees
Alcohol content: 13°-14° % vol.
Colour: very clear, medium-intensity straw yellow colour
Nose: intense, long-lasting, constant, persistent, floral and fruity with a smooth, warm sensation in a soft, elegant complex with final hints of flint 
: very typical, mild mineral hints that dissipate into chamomile, ripe plums, walnut and toasted almond in the finale
Serving suggestions: excellent served throughout the meal, after dinner and as a “meditation” wine. Comes into its own when served with full-flavoured cheeses and rival-less with shellfish in addition to elegantly accompanying white meats, meat pâté and vegetable pies

Comment of winemaker

I have been growing Timorasso and making wine from its grapes since the late 1990s with increasing passion and satisfaction. As a wine producer, I was perhaps brought to believe in Timorasso because although a long-standing part of the culture of my territory, this vine variety had never gained widespread popularity as for some reason Barbera and Cortese tended to be preferred.
On this premise and firmly convinced of the potential of the quality of Timorasso, I decided to go about changing the way my business produced, focussing on a range that was highly representative of my hills and the territory on which my vines stood.
I therefore decided to use our autochthonous vine to produce a white wine with a great personality that would help us begin collaborating with taste professionals whose main aim is the search for absolute quality, uniqueness and authenticity to thereby move away from a market that is increasingly “inflated” by certified products.
